Frequently Asked Questions
Below are some of our clients' most frequent questions to help guide you through the process.
Yes, all of our slabs and mantels are kiln dried. For more information on kiln drying please visit our services page and check the information provided under our kiln drying section.
There are several reasons to kiln dry wood. When wood is freshly sawn it contains large amounts of moisture, which can lead to cracking and warping over time. Kiln drying makes the wood more stable and less susceptible to deformation. Moisture in wood also causes issues with finishes, leading to peeling and discoloration. Additionally, since wood can be a habitat for insects, kiln drying kills those insects and removes the risk of future damage.
The best way to find what you are looking for is to send an email or give us a call. We can set up an appointment to look at individual pieces and select the right one for your project.
All material is run through a sanitation cycle in our kiln to eradicate insects. Each piece is hand-cleaned with an assortment of tools.
Our reclaimed material is salvaged from old Amish barns built in the Northeast. The wood is comprised mainly of various hardwoods, including White/Red Oak, Maple, Hickory, and Chestnut as well as less common species.
Yes, we generally stock small quantities of hardwood lumber, cut softwood lumber to order, and can also cut custom sizes upon request.
We work with a number of local tree services in an effort to salvage urban logs. In addition to that, we work with local loggers and have equipment to salvage logs from residential properties.
